Notes The 7th Competition, official name: SASUKE2001春 (literally SASUKE 2001 Spring) is the third tournament after Akiyama Kazuhiko's kanzenseiha. For the third straight tournament, the first and third stages were unchanged. However, the second stage underwent a tremendous redesign. The first two obstacles were replaced with the Chain Reaction, the Brick Climb (not an official obstacle), and a revamped Spider Walk. James Okada cleared with one tenth of a second left on the clock, tying Hasegawa Ken's record in SASUKE 1. The record was broken in SASUKE 27 when Ishikawa Terukazu cleared with 00.06 seconds left. The time limit was raised to 90 seconds. This is also future All-Star Nagano Makoto's first tournament, although he could not scale the Soritatsu Kabe and his run was cut. Yamamoto Shingo became the first to attempt the new Final Stage, consisting of a 12.5 meter Spider Climb and a 10 meter Rope Climb. However, Yamamoto has a history of shoulder problems and shortly after beginning the Spider Climb, he slipped off and dislocated his shoulder.
