Notes The 4th Competition, official name: SASUKE1999秋 (literally SASUKE 1999 Fall) is the most successful tournament in SASUKE history and many records were set. Past finalists Yamada Katsumi, Yamamoto Shingo, and Omori Akira were given start positions in the high 90s, foreshadowing the number system of the SASUKE All-Stars. However, both Omori and Yamamoto failed the First Stage. Other contestants with history of strong performance, such as Akiyama Kazuhiko and Yoshizaki Hiroaki, and were also given higher numbers.

The First Stage saw an amazing 37 people clear, the most ever. The previous record was 34, set in SASUKE 2. 16 year old Suzuka Ryugo became the youngest to clear; his record still stands today.

The Spider Walk caused a lot of problems in Stage Two and eliminated many competitors. In all, the stage claimed 26 people, another SASUKE record. Still, 11 people were able to make it to the Third Stage, again, the most in history.

In the Third Stage, a new obstacle was introduced: the Cliffhanger. It proved to be a vicious addition, eliminating half of the people that attempted it, while the Pipe Slider eliminated all but one person, Akiyama Kazuhiko. All in all, yet another record was set, with 10 people failing this stage.

In his only Final Stage appearance, Akiyama scaled the 15 meter rope climb in just 24 seconds, becoming the first man to achieve kanzenseiha.
